Yoga and Meditation are those powerful tools that help in fighting present-day problems and issues. No doubt, everyone is facing some sort of stress in present times. We specifically highlight present times not because people in past times faced no stress or problems. They do but their lifestyle is such that they are able to fight it. Do you know, what is that one thing you would find in almost everyone’s routine in ancient times? That is a habit of regular physical exercise and Dhyana.
Following the concept of ancient times, we have come up with two tools that are a boon for us. The god-gifted practice of yoga and meditation should be practiced daily for the best results. Yoga is not only a physical exercise but it is done for overall wellness and when it gets combined with Dhyana (Meditation), then definitely you feel heavenly.
If our mind is stable, our physical health remains and when we are physically healthy then we are able to focus. In simple words, the mind and physique are related to each other. So, yoga when practiced with meditation gives the best results. If we want to keep both our body and mind calm, then we should take some time out of this fast-paced life and do yoga and meditation.
Let us now know about yoga and meditation in detail.
Yoga is an ocean and small streams emanating from yoga are like rivers. One who dives into the ocean of yoga, his whole life changes. Defining yoga is not easy to define yoga because it is a process that changes moment by moment. A person who practices yoga regularly and becomes habitual to it starts seeing the light of the soul. The light that our eyes see is external. The external light comes from some source like electricity or the sun, while the internal light has no source. The inner light is a source in itself. That is your soul.
Knowing the self-light and seeing the glimpse of that divine in the light of this self-light is said to be the union of the divine with the soul and this is what the person doing yoga experiences.
Mind is the door to the world & Meditation is the tool to open that door
Meditation is the door to salvation. Whatever the mind has found, it is lost by meditation. What the mind has lost, it is found in meditation. Meditation is one of the eight and most important parts of yoga. It is a state of standing between the two worlds.
‘‘तत्र प्रत्ययैकतानता ध्यानम्।“
“Tatra Pratyayaktanata Dhyanam”
That is, where the mind is engaged, the unity of the instinct in that is meditation, staying awake in it is meditation.
Meditation is one such way to calm our body and mind so that we remain stress-free for a long time. It is a type of Dhyana which means to focus your mind on a certain place, thought or action. As we all know, our mind keeps on thinking many types of things at the same time, so that we do not feel at peace and many types of disorders also arise in our body.
In such a situation, to maintain peace of body and mind, we should do meditation every day at a fixed time and in a certain environment. By doing meditation, we are able to strengthen our attention, mind and working system. It further helps in thinking about only one thing at a time and also studying it deeply.
There is no difference between meditation and yoga, indeed meditation is a part of yoga itself. Asanas and Pranayama are the only means of perfecting yoga. According to Maharishi Patanjali, in Ashtanga Yoga, Yama, Niyama, Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dhyana, Dharana, and Samadhi are the eight parts of Yoga. Therefore, according to Maharishi Patanjali, meditation is the sixth part of Ashtanga Yoga.
